Gay Legal Rights - Civil Partnership Act 2004
The Civil Partnership Act 2004 applies from 5th December
2005 and will be one of the most ground breaking pieces of legislation
ever introduced. It will for the first time recognise in law the
existence of committed same-sex partnerships and will help to create
a more equal society free of prejudice.
However, the Act does not actually make a marriage in the traditional
sense and it is worthwhile answering some questions likely to be
asked:
The Act will basically allow same-sex couples to be able to gain
legal recognition for their relationship equivalent to the institution
of marriage and it will be vitally important for couples who wish
to make a formal commitment to each other. However, it is important
