Anti bullying seminar- more details announced. A message from our CEO

I am delighted to announce further details of the school anti bullying seminar to be held at Sinclairslaw Headquarters at 4 30pm on 18th May 2017. Too many children are suffering in silence with others unable to detect the signs of bullying, or unaware of what to do in these circumstances. The seminar will focus on legal rights, strategies for schools to adopt, signs to look out for in special needs cases, long term mental health issues as well as personal accounts from individuals and last but not least useful tools to use to help a person cope and recover from such painful experiences I am delighted also to announce that a professional television crew will broadcast the event live on social media as well as to allow live interaction both in person and via Web with our specialist panel. A live interactive feed will assist those who cannot physically attend due to distance although an added benefit for those who can will include an opportunity to speak to a legal advisor or specialist panel member free of charge. The event will be presented by national journalist and television presenter Keith Doyle with the programme directed by Julia Barry of Split Pea Productions and ex deputy editor of BBC breakfast. Speakers will include: Myself, an education lawyer with nearly a quarter of a century experience in the subject. Vivienne Clifford Educational Psychologist and lecturer at a leading London University to discuss school based strategies to combat bullying. Juanita Hurley Speech Therapist (talking about signs to watch out for in special needs cases and in particular non verbal and language impaired children) Claude Knights a leading national campaigner and child advocate for anti bullying charities and regular participate on BBC National News and other television productions. Dr Jamil consultant psychiatrist will talk about the long term mental health consequences of bullying. There will also be a personal presentation by an individual whose life was deeply affected by bullying and what needs to be learned as a consequence. Do not miss this one off event. Why have I decided to stage and fund this event? Because I have had the unpleasant experience of frequently having to professionally address the consequences of bullying. Far too many families have been shattered as a result of cruel behaviour. I have dealt with cases of children some as young as 7 who have tragically attempted or even committed suicide because of bullying as well as those who have suffered far too long in silence. If this event enlightens the path for one person to a solution this seminar will be a glowing success. Legal intervention must always be a matter of last resort, as practical tools to address the problem before it gets out of hand must generally be explored first. However be under no doubt, ignoring the problem is never the answer. Similarly a victim believing that no help is available is mistaken. There is always something that can be done and positive and sometimes robust action generally always crystallises a pathway to a solution. Don't be afraid. Book your place today for this free event. Spaces are limited and will be reserved for children, parents and schools on a first come first serve basis.
